The First Christian Church of Berryville was organized in 1871. The original building still stands with additions made from time to time. A new kitchen and fellowship hall were added along with enlarging the sanctuary to its present size with stained glass windows.
In the beginning, dinners were "served on the ground" family style. Today our modern kitchen and spacious dining area provide modern conveniences.
Ministers serving through the years included Brothers J.H. Burgess, A.M. Barker, and Frank Shane. There were 24 additions by baptism by and statement under Brother Shane, and 80 by Brother Barker. During the 30's, Brothers Southward and Lynch had more than 80 baptisms. Beginning in the 40's, Brothers D.A. Williams, Stiff, Candler, Patrick, and Poe served our church with a greater addition of members. Brother Poe, alone, had more than 100 members by baptism and statement during his tenure in the late 40's until the late 50's. Brother Cleaver, a supply minister, followed. At one time in 1945, two pastors, Patrick and Stiff, served. Brothers Nolan Pierce and Mark Reid followed with brief terms. Shane, Strong, Candler, Huntington, Davidson and Lanehart added collectively more than 100 to our membership.
In 1971, our 100th Birthday, Brother Bob Sanders was our minister and served throughout our centennial celebration. Following Bob Sander's death, the stained glass baptistery was dedicated in his memory.
In 1977, Brother Charles Cody began his tenure as our pastor. During this time, the Memorial Chapel was dedicated on October 29th, 1985. One year later, on October 29, 1986, Brother Cody Passed away.
Brothers Chuck Hammond and Tim Carlson each served our church faithfully for three years. Chuck Hammond was our Pastor from1995 until 2004. In July 2004, Paul Elliott became our new pastor.
