Worship Ministry Team
Our worship services for the past few weeks have included visuals related to the sermon prepared by John and Judy. We have also enjoyed the special music provided by the talented people from Inspiration Point. We had a music service July 13th and a church picnic following the service. This was enjoyed by all. Our sunday bulletin now has the songs for the service printed in them because we are using hymns from several books. Any suggestions or questions call me - Allawayne Carr

Discipleship Ministry Team

The youth group celebrated their year together by going on a road trip to Harrison. Their destination was the Young Life Barn Swing. Close to twenty Berryville First Christian youth, friends, and chaperones attended the event with *most* of the group attempting the giant swing over a foam pit! Fortunately the Barn Swing is located directly across the road from Pizza Pro so tummies were filled with eight large pizzas and a cooler of soft drinks! Everyone worked up an appetite between swinging, rock wall climbing, and playing basketball. Click here to view pictures of the fun!
What will the youth group be doing for the upcoming year starting in September? Stay tuned! Exciting plans and changes are in the works!

Finance Standing Committee

The Finance Standing Committee held its first meeting Sunday, July 27. Members are Shirley Porter, chairperson; Doug Carr, treasurer; Gordon Carr; Allawayne Carr; Lee Hale; and Linda West. The committee is considering a variety of ways to improve our financial methods. In the meantime, we have answers to some questions we have heard from some of you.
Where can I find information on the church’s finances?
A copy of the most recent balance sheet is always posted on the bulletin board in the fellowship hall above the coffee pots. We would be happy to provide copies on request.
Why hasn’t anyone asked for our contributions toward the cost of the new roofs on our church buildings and the repairs to the church parsonage?
There were a few low-key requests, but, in case you missed them, we are asking now. Here are the basic facts:
Our total spending on the roofs and other major repairs amounted to $44,534.00. We depleted the church’s savings account, we used the designated gifts that came in, and we borrowed money. The present balance on what we owe to the bank is $9,330.00.
As you have probably noticed in the past newsletters, we have often failed to collect sufficient funds monthly to cover our expenses.
For your information: Cornerstone Preschool will soon be moving out of the building behind the church. There may be additional expenses to ready it for a new renter.
We would like to eliminate the debt and restore our savings account to about $20,000.00. Raising $29,330.00 above our regular giving would be a great confidence booster as we head into 2009, enabling us to dare to do more of the things we need to do in order to carry out our purposes as a church.
If you would like to contribute to this cause, make out your special check to First Christian Church, mark it for Building Repairs and place it in the offering plate, or mail it to the church, P.O. Box 187—attention Doug Carr.
Where can I see a church budget?
The Finance Standing Committee is currently developing budgets for the rest of 2008 and for 2009. We should have something to show to you in the near future. We hope that, when you see the budget, you will also want to increase your regular giving to support the ministries of First Christian Church.

Fireworks Stand Fundraiser Report
It took 42 volunteers working 15 days (a total of 520 hours) to earn $5,000.00. That doesn't count 135 sleeping (security) hours and about 45+ administration hours. That is 700 hours in all.
We report the following 5 awards to special volunteers:
The Best of the West award to the West family. The question was asked, “How many Wests does it take to run a fireworks stand?” The answer, of course, was all of them!
The Cabin Cruiser award to Dan Krotz for staying in the cabin over-night more times than anyone else.
The Show Me the Money award to Steve Hanna for making all of this stuff possible.
The Marketing Marvels of FCC award to Melita Stubblefield and David Bell for their collaborative work on the bookmark handouts placed in each bag of fireworks.
The Clean-Up Queen award to Carol Barekman for providing refrigerator-sized clean-up bags and a gutsy determination to the very end.
We can't begin to offer sufficient thanks to the 42 plus people that made this year's FCC's fireworks stand a huge success.
Be sure to see the fireworks stand photo board at the church, and Click here to view them online.
